We spent a few day with friends at Whitehaven during May 2000 in glorious weather and were taken to see the various sights. The area is on the edge of the Lake District and has the most remarkable scenery, it seems that at almost every turn is a picture postcard setting, enthusing me to stop and paint a watercolour of Blakesfell from Whitehaven with Skiddaw and Grasmere in the distance.
Whitehaven has an interesting harbour and a new museum
Ennerdale has a lake with high steep curved hills around it, a very attractive site.
Egremont has the remains of a castle, the views above are just outside the town at an attractive bridge and stream.
